Permanent Makeup

Permanent make-up, you could also call it a make-up tattoo: it is a special cosmetic procedure in which pigment is “laid” in the upper skin layer - the result: a beautiful make-up that you don't have to wash off before going to sleep - and don't have to reapply in the morning. It is also called permanent makeup, semi-permanent makeup or cosmetic tattoo. Abbreviations such as PMU and SPMU are also regularly used.

As the skin renews itself, the PMU will fade over time, but this will happen very slowly. On average, a PMU lasts about 2 years, but in some cases it can last up to 6 years. This is both a big plus (saving time in the morning makeup) and a minus. A failed permanent makeup cannot be washed away with makeup remover. That is why it is very important that you research a professional permanent make-up specialist, who not only keeps up with the trends, but also takes your skin type, facial structure, personal characteristics and facial expression into account.

Advantages and disadvantages of permanent makeup

Permanent make-up saves you time; don't spend half mornings drawing your eyebrows symmetrically, applying your lipstick straight. You don't even have to wash off the make-up - this saves even more time!

A well-done permanent make-up looks natural and enhances your natural beauty; your eyebrows look fuller, lips look fuller and you look vibrant.

But it also carries a risk. For example, the pigment used may not be suitable, causing undesirable results (such as discoloration.) A good PMU artist will always be open about the pigments she uses. Also, the result depends on the specialist who performs the treatment. You have to do good research.

What should you look for when looking for permanent make-up in the Netherlands?

 - pictures of healed results

 - Certificates

 - Hygiene (PMU specialists in the Netherlands must have a GGD permit, which you can look up at www.veiligtattoeerenenpiercen.nl)

 - Products (Does the salon use high quality pigments? Do they use sterile needles?)

- Personal feeling and connection with the specialist (That is very important)

If all this is in order, then you have a good chance of a successful result.
